Wine fest in Binissalem - "Festa des Vermar"

September is the month that marks the grape harvest in Binisslem and therefore the whole town comes out for a big "Wine fest." This fest is celebrated from the 28th of August to the 29th, a two day celebration in which the whole town and its visitors get together to enjoy one of the best things in Majorca- its wine!

Binissalem is a small municipality in the centre of Majorca. It is one of the most important wine producing regions on the island and is normally a very quiet and relaxed place to be in. However, during the two-day fest the town explodes into life and is full of activity and happiness.  Traditional entertainment including dancing and singing is enjoyed in the main square. Giant puppets are paraded along the winding streets before free wine is served to everyone. The visitors are able to try some of the best wines in Spain and are even lucky enough to be able to try them in such a beautiful place like Binissalem.

But the highlight of the event is undoubtedly the Grape Battle. This is one of the most traditional events of Majorca, and typical in Binissalem. You are advised to wear old clothing and don't expect to stay clean½ This one gets very messy!
