Rafael Nadal "illustrious son of Majorca"

Rafael Nadal is set to be awarded the highest distinction possible by the Majorca council, therefore becoming the "illustrious son of Majorca." According to the council the three political parties agreed on the decision however this award will have to be rectified by a plenary session of the institution. The date initially anticipated for the delivery of the award is the 12 of September, but indeed that day will coincide with the Brazil eliminatory for the permanence in the World-Wide Group of "Copa Davis."

This award rewards Nadal for his professional and personal achievements, praising him as being the best ambassador for Majorca around the world, promoting the island as a sports destination wherever he goes. This new award will join with the ones already given to him by the Council. These include the highest sports reward, the Cornelius Atticus, given to him and to the pilot Jorge Lorenzo on a special edition and the recognition of Nadal as the "favorite son" of Manacor since 2010.

The president of the council, Maria Salom, has spoken about Nadal as being one of the best sportsmen and a person with numerous principles and values such as "persistence, effort, self-improvement, honesty, loyalty, etc½" MÉS, on the other hand, through its spokesman in the Council, Joan Font, has wanted to state that "Nadal has the sufficient sports and human merits to be appointed illustrious son and MÉS by Majorca therefore recognizes it, but we have not participated in this decision".
