At Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Nova Mallorca we want to wish you a very happy new year and we hope it will be as good as the 2019 we have spent together. To start the year on the right foot, we want you to enjoy the island to the fullest during winter and we want to give you a couple of ways to do so.
Normally we associate Mallorca with summer, its beaches, its popular festivities and the number of celebrities that visit the island. The truth is that Mallorca in summer, as opposed to winter, seems, supposedly, to lack a sense of magic and charm... but that’s not the case.
Mallorca has a mild winter, with rain and snow in the mountains that sometimes reach the flat areas and the coast. It is true that we do not have a perpetual summer, as in the Canary Islands, but winter in Mallorca is also very attractive. In fact, the places to visit and the activities that normally take place in summer can also be carried out successfully in winter, with some exceptions.
The sunlight is different in the winter months; it is dim and fragile. Sunlight hours are reduced and with the time change, daylight hours are significantly shortened. It is the ideal time to go hiking in the mountains. The summer heat prevents you from enjoying the mountains in summer in the way that you can in winter. Going to see the snow, reservoirs or to take a stroll through our beautiful valleys of the Sierra de Tramontana, are very popular activities. The swamps of Cúber and Gorg Blau seem like Swiss lakes, full of splendour, freshness and greenery and the mountains are full of routes such as the Torrente de Pareis, the path of the Archduke, a hike from Randa to the Monastery of Cura, a pilgrimage to the Monastery of Lluc... these are all just examples of the many routes one can take.
Bicycles are for the summer, but in winter, in Mallorca, they can be of great use. If the weather allows it, with the dry paths, there are many groups of cyclists that are seen on our minor roads...ideal to rediscover Mallorca once again. The routes between villages, marked as cycle tourism are activities that allow us to better understand how pre-touristic Mallorca was before the 1960s.
However, if cycling is not your thing, there are many equestrian ranches that keep their doors open in winter. There are very few sensations comparable to riding on the back of a horse through the sand and dunes of a beautiful beach, a green countryside or a mountain valley.
Golf is also one of the star activities for winter in Mallorca. The fields of Son Vida, Aucanada, Santa Ponsa, Puntiró, Pulla and many more are prepared for the winter season so that lovers of this sport can enjoy this activity in Mallorca.
The bars, squares, pubs, restaurants and shops of the towns and the capital, Palma, are full of life. It is time to enjoy our highly regarded gastronomy...it is the time of the sobrassada and the botifarró, protagonists of barbecues and popular festivals such as Sant Antoni in Sa Pobla and Sant Sebastià in Palma de Mallorca. Wineries, cafes and bars serve hot drinks such as mugs of hot chocolate, in beautiful places like Valldemossa. The old town of Palma, with grand and ancient buildings seem to disappear before our eyes as the light diminishes making us miss the summer. The exhibitions, museums, concerts, readings and fashion shows are in full swing.
Mallorca in winter does not hibernate, it transforms just like the light we enjoy. We live and enjoy similar activities, characterized by other elements and conditions. Which is why having a property in Mallorca is a luxury within reach for quite a few people. Mallorca in winter does not stop, it only takes a break for the summer, which is always around the corner.
