Percentage of foreign property buyers triplicates since low in 2009
According to Beatriz Corredor, director of Institutional Relations of the College of Property and Mercantile Registers of Spain, foreign buyers are responsible for 13 % of all of the operations on the Spanish property market, a triplication of the 4.24 % in 2009. The number even exceeds by far pre-Crisis percentages, which indicates a rising market, says Corredor, as in 2012 the percentage of foreign buyers was 8.12 %.
The largest demand is for secondary homes in a mainly touristic environment and along the coast, while the most active group are the British, representing 15 % of the foreign buyers and surpassing the French with less than 10 %. The third-largest group comes from Russia, with 8.58 % of the transactions, profiting from the residential permit in exchange for buying property.
