Holy Week in Mallorca among traditions, flavors and emotions

During Holy Week, Mallorca becomes a vibrant stage where religion, tradition and culture merge. Even if celebrated more privately this year, the spirit remains alive in local homes. Families gather to prepare traditional sweets and keep customs alive. It’s a time that connects generations and strengthens Mallorcan identity, proving that even at home, the magic of Easter can be felt.

Processions that move the soul
From Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday, processions fill the streets of Palma and other towns with solemnity and emotion. Brotherhoods in robes and hoods carry religious icons through the streets, accompanied by sacred music. Maundy Thursday features the impressive ‘Crist de la Sang’ procession, and on Good Friday, Pollensa hosts the dramatic Descent of Christ from the Cross down 365 steps. Easter Sunday brings the joyful Encounter procession between Jesus and Mary.

Flavors that tell stories
Traditional food takes center stage during Easter. “Panades” filled with meat or fish, “coca de verduras”, sweet “robiols”, and crunchy “crespells” bring back family memories. These delights, made with local ingredients like olive oil and Sóller oranges, are cultural treasures. Chocolate Easter “monas”, gifted by godparents, sweeten the tradition and strengthen family bonds.

Fun and color at the Fira del Ram
The Fira del Ram is one of the most awaited events, turning the outskirts of Palma into a fairground for weeks. With rides, a Ferris wheel, raffles and food stalls, it offers fun for the whole family. It’s a joyful mix of lights, laughter and nostalgia, and a must-visit for both locals and visitors.

A countryside farewell to Easter
Holy Week ends with Angel Sunday, a day dedicated to outdoor meals and gathering. Families head to emblematic spots like Bellver Castle or Puig de Santa Magdalena to enjoy picnics. Once a charity event, it remains a beloved tradition symbolizing unity and celebration. Mallorca proves that its customs evolve while preserving their heart.
