Hard January

Hard January, how to make it a little less hard

Is January becoming an uphill struggle?

It happens to all, but there are many ways to make the so called "hard January" a little less hard.

After the parties, presents and all types of celebrations it's time to readjust. Christmas is always a time of big expenditures, and when you reach January it all just seems a little bit harder. Don't worry, everything has a solution

Here we hand you some tips to make "hard January" a little less hard:

  • Avoid the bills shooting up. Switch off the lights when you are not using them, use heating only when necessary and shut windows and doors to maintain the heat. Careful with showers, it's where you waste more water. These small details can become a big saving at the end of the month.
  • Yes to home-made meals. After having lunch in one place and another, a home-made dish is always welcome and can hugely reduce spending. Use what you have left in the refrigerator, you sure have things left from all the parties.
  • Make a shopping list. A shopping list will help you buy only the necessary. Without one, buying four things can become forty
  • Careful with the sales! Taking advantage of the sales is a good idea, but don't go crazy! Don't get carried away by offers and above all, avoid buying things you don't need.
  • Revise contracts. January is always a good month to revise contracts of goods, services and insurance. Compare tariffs and companies, you might find a better deal. Careful with the change of contracts. Revise your actual one and make sure you don't have periods of notice or permanency.
  • Enjoy "low cost" leisure. Excursions to the mountain or the beach, a walk through Palmas old town, a movie at home and with family are some examples of how to have a good time spending zero money.
  • Compare prices. When buying something new, always compare prices. There are many options for everything and you might find what you are looking for at a cheaper price spending just a little more time.
  • Sell on-line. Selling what you don't like or what you don't need is always a good option to cover small costs and to clean the house of unnecessary things.
  • Don't be afraid to change or sell the presents you don't like. December is a month of many presents, but you don't always get it right. Use the new concept of "regifting" where you sell the present you don't like and with what you get regift yourself something new. Therefore you will have something of use and you may even save a little money. We all win!
  • Buy second-hand articles. Nowadays there are many options to buy nearly everything second hand. Don't be scared to take a look, you might find what you are looking for semi new or even new.

Following these tips, I'm sure, you will survive hard January and you will even realize that, being a little careful, it's not that bad. You can do it!!!
