Festivities of Saint Sebastian in Palma 2014
The day of
Saint Sebastian is the 20
th January,and in the city of
Palma, the celebrations begin a week before, with fireworks in the bay and street bonfires, with all the people sharing the hot spicy sausage 'sobrasada', wines and beer, in many of the city squares.
The programme of events usually starts the previous Saturday and for more than a week a variety of events are held.
The most popular event of the celebrations is the open-air night festival of Saint Sebastian, which is celebrated on 19th January with bonfires and musical performances in various places in the city centre.In the morning on 20
th January, the day of Saint Sebastian, the solemn Mass of St. Sebastian is celebrated at the Cathedral. At noon acycling event 'DiadaCiclista'takes place and in the evening the ceremony of prizes 'Ciutat de Palma' is held.
The 'Correfoc' is a parade of 'Dimonis' (demons) in which hundreds of fireworks are launched. This act puts an end to the festivities of San Sebastian.
