Casino in Majorca already has a location

The second casino to be opened in Majorca has already got an official location: The old bingo hall "Teatro Balear" near the Olivar market has beaten off competition from locations in Playa de Palma and Bendinat and has been awarded the commission to build a new Casino in Mallorca. The economy counsellor Joaquín García has stated that the proposal made by the Teatro Balear completely leaves the other two options out of league.

The casino will be called the Gran Casino Teatro Balear and plans to open on July 1st 2014 if permission is granted by the City Council. The idea is to move attractions back into the city centre and away from the suburbs in an attempt to rejuvenate the city centre of Palma. The promoters stated that we are summing ourselves to the new trend in Spain which is to introduce and transfer game areas and casinos that used to be in the outskirts, and bring them back to the centre of town, like it is already happening in Madrid.

The winning offer (Teatro Balear) estimates that the investment to be made in order to transform the theatre into a casino will be around 10 million Euros. This will include 70 machines with prizes, and 13 game tables dedicated specifically to games like American roulette, blackjack or poker. It is hoped that the Casino will create 170 new jobs.

It has been a very polemic decision as not everyone believed that two casinos was the right option for Majorca, however most agree that it is a good idea and that it will generate money incomes that will benefit many of the locals in Majorca.
